College Admissions Questions from Parents, Part Two

Another parent question regarding college essays! 

“How do you make sure that your essay is truly unique and will stand out?”

Each individual person is “unique”, and so each student’s voice is also unique, if it comes through clearly in their writing. What I try to do is to help develop each student’s unique voice to include the positive qualities that combine in a particular way in that student. 

The best way I find to make an essay stand out is to tell a compelling, well-written story. If the admissions person reading the essay actually enjoys their time spent reading, that essay is more likely to leave a positive impression on them.
